I was just at the local Sam's club and saw fifty count cake boxes of Verbatim dvd-r and dvd+r for $56. This seemed real good to me. Do Verbatim DVD's have the same reputation as their CD's?

Yeah Verbatims are good for the most part. Alot of them carry the Ritek dye, which is pretty popular.

They're down to $56 at Sam's for the -R also now? sweet, gonna make a trip this week. :) Anyway, I've only used the Verbs thus far for for Data CDs (no flicks, or games or anything) but I burned all the data DVDs at 2x, all wrote and read perfectly.

I am not buying them anymore, The last 5 packs have been crap, there not even the ritek dye. My drive keeps saying please insert a blank disk or it screws up 4-5 mins into the burn, I throw in riteks or fuji's no problem, princo dont even give me problems.

You must've gotten the ones with the cheap dye on them.

yup, the ones from sams club are that way, they used to be ritek, they dont work in my girls or buddies dvd burner, dru500-a, lg multi burner and dru 514-a, other people i hear are complaining.

Really? :( oh well. I bought the ones I have @ Office Depot during a BOGO sale. Not sure what product # they are.

Verbatim seems to be anxious to kill their high-end market. I used to buy my DataLife Plus CD-Rs at Sam's, then realized the alst time that I only had DataLifes w/o the AZO dye. :( They work fine on my LG burner, but they fail at anything over 6x on my family member's Sony. Complete crap IMHO.

They are the same ones at office depot 420. I think they did this because it was cheaper for them, but losing customers. Someone with 8 years of collage must have thought of this. Take something that was fine and ruin it. If something makes sense, lets F it up!

My understanding was that there were 3 different dyes put at randome on Verbatim discs. 1. Taiyo Yuden (Excellent) 2. Ritek (Great) 3. Another brand which is supposed to be crap. It could all depend on which batch you buy.

Unless they let me open them first to see, I would rather not deal with them anymore, on the plus side..I did ship back the 32 discs back to verbatim and they replaced them, on the down side..the same damn ones that dont work. Cant return them to the store since its been past 30 days.

2 batches that don't work? That's no good. Oh well. Verbatims are almost always more expensive than Ritek, so I have never bothered with them.

Yep, we bought 4 -R 15 packs, the buy 1 get 1 free at office depot, more than half were bad the others were fine. Then bought the 30 pack of +R's at sams club, and got the first 1 to work then the next 5 were bad, ended up returning them, and thats the last time I buy verbatims.
