I am getting ready to buy my first DVD burner. I was thinking either the Pioneer A06, the Memorex Dual format (4x) or the Sony 2x4x8 so I was wondering if one is better than the other. I hgave read about the Pioneer and Sony here and they seem to get the thumbs up, but I would aooreciate any more info if anyone cares to share.

Most of the posts I read say that they are playing their burned DVD's in a PC dvd player. Will a burned DVD play in a normal, "tv" DVD player? For instance, say, just for the sake of argument, I have a DVD of Flubber and I make a copy of it - will it play in a regular "tv" DVD player? Of course I would never do this as it is a violation of Copyright laws and it is a stupid movie, but hypathetically.
In the same vein, will a DVD that I make of my own home movies also play in a regular DVD player?

thanks for help

Okay first of all I would DEFINITELY get the Pioneer over the Memorex or the Sony that you have listed. The Sony you listed seems to be out of date and I'm not sure who actually makes the Memorex. There are alot of overpriced rebadged NECs running around lately but I can assure you that the Pioneer is a Pioneer. In regaurds to your second question, yes a quality DVD-R disc will play in just about any stand alone DVD Player.

I couldn't tell you about those two as I've never used either but the second part I can help you on. I assume that " tv " DVD player means standalone, if so, if you burn a DVD it should play on your standalone if your stand alone can play the type of DVD you used e.g. some standalones will not play DVD-RW. Also, you can't just simply copy a DVD, you'll have to remove macrovision protection from it and in most cases you'll have to shrink your copied DVD files in order to fit on a blank DVD. Of course this is all hypothetical as no one here violates copyright laws!?! Good luck!

thanks for your advice, people. I will be buying the Pioneer in a week or so(and probably be back with more dumb questions).
