Whats the difference between DVD-R and DVD+R?

Its a format. If you have a dual format burner then you have nothing to worry about. Also -R are more compatable with dvd players.

They are usually in the UK yes, don't know about elswhere though. :)

if the minus dvdr is cheaper and more compatible then why the hell they make dvd+r or even dual format writers?

Because some companies wanted to write a better RW format. I have to agree that DVD+RW seems to be a bit better than DVD-RW, however both RW formats are inferior in terms of compatibility compared to -R and +R, so it really isn't that much of an advantage. Some claim that +R are better quality than -R but that is simply because they are comparing a name brand +R disc to a Princo DVD-R disc (comparing apples and oranges). Stick to a quality DVD-R disc and you will save a little bit of money. +R gets some good in-store specials but you never know what brand of media you are going to end up with next (what specials are going on at the time). For the same price as the +R specials (or less) on the net, you can consistantly get quality DVD-R discs.

+R is winning the speed war at the moment.

Yeah but Pioneer's 107/A07 being released next month will help boost things for the - format. ;)
