Ryboman Nov 21, 2003, 05:55 PM I'm not a computer pro but i put together my last computer and was wondering if it was better to buy a laptop or put one together. I'm moving to a smaller place and need to upgrade anyway. Also, if i do go with buying one any recommendations? Thx
Van Nugent Nov 21, 2003, 06:29 PM For laptops, I do not think you can build 1. However, most vendors let you configure it the way you want (size of RAM, HDD, burners...).
Mr Snatcher Nov 21, 2003, 11:54 PM I am with Van on this, you can specify what you want (like from Dell)but if you figure out how to build a laptop, please post us the instructions and the mold kit for the casing.
copyright Nov 22, 2003, 12:33 AM lol, shouldn't you find out first if its even possible. Which it would be if you have some of the best soldering skills in the world, OEM parts, and 2 free months spent on puting it toghter, mostly the soldering...
jesterrace777 Nov 22, 2003, 04:41 AM Yup, I've never heard of anyone building a Laptop. Even with Desktops it's almost worth it just to buy a prebuilt one with some of the deals they have going.
avalonsunset Nov 22, 2003, 05:01 AM take a look at fortune technology in stevenage - when they configured my laptop, I was even given a choice of which model DVD drive I wanted.
Excellent service

Ryboman Nov 24, 2003, 08:09 PM thanks for the imput, didn't know bout the putting l;aps together, i guess no upgrades after you get it, oh well. thx
Virgin San Nov 24, 2003, 08:46 PM Upgrades are still possible Rybo, just not to the same extent as with desktop.
User-01 Nov 25, 2003, 01:15 AM You can try to build your own computer with your specs, you can buy barebones laptops, but the difficulty is to find the correct parts that will fit into your case. That's the only downfall and it's very expensive to buy a Mobile processor and try to look for one since they aren't easy to come by due to market demands.
Ryboman Nov 25, 2003, 01:54 AM Ok thanks for all your input. I'll just have to get one now and save up to buy an upgraded modle in 2 years when mine is to slow.
