Basically I am a student at university and only have a desktop pc but the problem is that i travel home almost every w end so I am looking for a laptop that I can bring home with me so that I can do my work at the w ends. The work would be mostly porgramming and writing reports so the laptop does not need to be a p4 or anything like that.
I would like it to be a small and light as possible, not to concern with cdrom or dvd and i dont need loads of space on the hard drive but it must have a ethernet so i can transfer files from my pc to it.
Could you guys suggest some for less that £1000
Thanks

Well, If your not looking for a p4 or high end one, than I would look at a computer show. If you want a new one and dont trust having a used one, I would look at Dell, they usaully have some pretty good deals.

Sony TR1MP or there's another model that I can't remember - but they're nearer to £2k than £1k.
Students can get discounted laptops from some suppliers.
Have a look at www.whatlaptop.co.uk for info.

To answer your question on the smaller laptops m8
The laptops that have a really fast CPU in a load of ram and a big HD are desktop replacments, they are quite cheap now and normally above 3KG
What you want is 'proper' notebook, they have smaller HD (but not always) an adquate amount of ram and weigh below 2KG normally
They also dont have a standard CPU in or even a mobile version they use a special low voltage one, such as the intel Centrino (AMD dont have one yet but are bringing one out soon)
They range from 1Ghz to about 1.7Ghz and are perfect for what you need
