Looking to buy one of these now for general family use ,,just wondered if any1 could advise on wot to look out for ,,or know of any good deals going,,have approx £300 to spend ...Or are there any good reveiw sites that compare them all,,Am a complete novice to this so all and any advice is welcome

All seem to have good info and reviews.

One good piece of advice would be dont look for digital zoom, its pointless, you need opticle :)

Digital zoom is more usable in a camcorder than a digital camera.True,optical zoom is best.I would pick either Canon or Sony.I have the Canon ZR70,which is a bit more than you want to spend.The ZR65 is about the price you want.The 70 has 22x zoom,the 65 has 20x.That is OPTICAL zoom.These 2 also have "passthrough".Which means you can hook a vcr up to tha camera and the camera to your computer.Thus making the camera a video capture unit .
