Hi guys - the wife has asked me what I want for Christmas. I would like to get a DVD burner but have no idea which one to get.

Ricoh, Sony etc - i haven't got a glue. I'd like to be able to back up the kids PS2 and X Box games as well as my DVD movie collection. I also intend to transfer some of my holiday video onto DVD.

I would appreciate some advice from all of you experts out there.

Many thanks

Steve

You may consider OptoRite Model DD0201( Newer version than DD0203). Three of my friends and I bought this drive and is working perfectly to back up PS2 games. and DVD Movie collections. Go to www.tigerdirect.com to get the DVD X Copy package. I bought my burner from www.livewarehouse.com. for $120. But I think the price has dropped. You won't regret buying this burner

I'D go for the Pioneer 106. It's has a really good track history and quite a few people have them so it will be easy to find help should you need it. You can get the Pioneer 106 for $119 shipped from www.avlogic.com or $123 shipped for the same drive with Recordnow DX burning software which will be much more useful to you for backing up games than DVD X COPY Xpress (only works for movies) ;)

I agree with with jester, $123 is cheap and with the software.

 You ought to give up clue sniffing then ;)

But seriously, theres been a LOT of advice given on this topic in recent weeks, if you read through relevant threads on the first couple of pages of this forum you should be able to form a pretty well rounded view

... and Happy Xmas (Jeez, its still November and the greetings are out already  )
