My pc kept on freezing everytime i tried to use a program or play music etc.

A few guys on here thought it could be either the fan on the processor or a bad device driver.

Well i took it to the pc shop and they told me that the system registry was fuked. either that or it was in a hell of a mess.

Now im just wondering, could that cause the whole pc to freeze up.

any reply would be appreciated

thanks

Personally, I wouldn't say so. If it just freezes solid, then no way. If the registry was in a mess, then you would notice some sort of crash or error.

I would go along with temperature or some funked up drivers.

Well, obviously I'm not looking at the machine so I can't say for sure, but that is my opinion.

He might honestly think that's the problem, or he might not have a clue and that's all he could think of to say. Hell, it could be the problem, but I don't think so.

Try keeping the machine cooler than normal. Leave the sides off, things like that. See if that stops it freezing.

The system reg being messed up can cause this to happen, it somtimes does freeze a PC when muliple programs are running that dont run well together or when registry entries have become corrupted, or a progame doesn't finish loading.

The easiest and quickest option and it may be one the shop tried, is to fit another hardrive, install windows and see if the pc runs ok, if you you have another drive of course. If not and before spending a pile of dosh on hardware looking for solutions, try a format and reinstallation, faulty PSU's also cause pc's to lock up but usually on boot up.

Memphis, the pc locking up could be a crash, as you described then you would notice some sort of crash or error.

True Nuttapper, I guess I should have phrased that a little better.

Have you tried doing a virus scan or use spybot? there are alot of worms going around. Also if the registry is that messed up try using a program called regclean. What OS are you using?

And if you are running XP, why not reset everything from your Win XP disc and see what happens then if a reg clean fails to solve it.
