i finished building my new pc, tho now it wont boot-up!!!

the power flows in as all lights switch on, but the monitor shows a blank screen an the pc-speaker beeps constantly after switching 'on'.

all connections are pluged in + the ddr dram.
ive disconnected the FDD an dvd to eliminate them, but surely with the HDD pluged in it should still boot up - right?

ps- its a new ATX mother board with an 8.4gb IDE HDD if that helps.

thanx for any help people :)

First thing I would is reseat the ram and disconnect and reconnect the IDE cables (All of them)...

then take it from there

Also check HD to make sure its set as the master (if thats how you have it)

check the ram, reseat it or its not compatable. Need mobo model and brand, speed of memory stick.

the HDs jumper is on factory default [i assume master]
HD is a quantum fireball CX 3.5 series

ram is PC2100 DDR266 184-pin of 256mb
mobo is ASUS A7V8X-X

- will soon retry fixing it after hearing above comments - thanx:)

The speaker bleeps are the key here, the constant bleeping should be an error message detailed in the mobo hand book, it will give you the info needed.

check here to see if you can identify the beep code
http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/sys/beep/

if it a continous beep or a long beep it is likely RAM
