what sort of improvements whould i see if i swapped to ddr ram?

is £35 for 256 cruical pc2100, a good deal?

what are you swapping? pc2100 is the second slowest of ddr.

at the moment i have pc133, sdram

So you are getting a new mobo, or you have one that has slots for both sd and ddr. If you do get at least pc3200, it should work. There is a difference, but if you have a low system, I dont really see a huge difference.

Why would you recomend him to get pc3200 RAM? His system would not take and advantage over it. It would just run it at pc2100 speeds, since that the highest speed his mobo supports.

Because if he ends ever getting a newer board, then he can take advantage of it then. Just looking ahead.

I would probably would do it. ripping dvd's would probably be a little faster.

how so? I have a 16x dvd drive at a 7200rpm with 8mb

Well, The memory as a read and write function. The processor also has to do its part. The higher the memory speed the faster the process.

It should help there too, but remember that you cant run both sd and ddr at the same time.
