Excellent choice as that would've been my recommendation. Pioneer 106/A06 and the Sony Dru510A are simply the best burners out there for the money. That is also the site I would've recommended as they are quite reliable.

Check www.pcworld.com

They just did a good review of burners and various
types of media.

Lol, what a hoot.

Pioneer rated as number TEN. lol
At the bottom :-)
"Hardware defect management offers extra data protection, but stretches rewrite times into hours, not minutes."

Sony Number 6.
"Lightning-fast drive for burning DVD+RW discs using packet writing--but 4X media is still tough to find."

You still feel the same jesterrace777?

although i really contest those figures for Pioneer and Sony, i would stil lnot trust PCWorld EVER!!. i read that magazine for years everything i read seem to just fly off the top.

im suprised how cheap dvdr burners are though today. regardless of which one you get, your paying a fair price.

Yes I do, they have the TDK rated as number 2. The TDK is in fact a relabled NEC 1300A and we all know how many complaints we have seen about those. Memorex=#1???? I'm sorry but I trust the general findings of people over time, rather than a few yo-yos who get together and test out burners for a week or two. I visit several other sites besides CDROM-GUIDE and the findings are the same, the two most recommended burners are the Pioneer and the Sony. So I am more than a little skeptical of PC World rating the Memorex and the TDK at #1 and #2. Also does anyone else find it funny that they seem to be only worried about RW performance.
I don't know about anyone else but RW performance is the least of my concerns when buying a burner as the RW formats are less compatible and more expensive.

I just conferred with a guy on another site who found the reason. The compaines who spent the most money on advertising in the last few months seem to have found thier burners at the top of the list for some odd reason. Check out http://www.cdrinfo.com/ as they have VERY detailed and unbiased testing of each of the DVD Burners out there.

Yeah, as a matter of fact there isn't much change from 500ax to 510.... but more $$. I think 510 does dvdrw at 4x vs 2.4x for the others, thats about it.

That and the firmware is more up to date. Even so you are right though that there isn't much difference.
