Spart Nov 29, 2003, 01:44 PM First off, im using a router to make the connection. The cables are cat 5. I have my xbox set to static ip 192.168.0.3, 255.255.255.0, and gateway 192.168.0.1. I have my laptop set on static 192.168.0.1, 255.255.255.0. Using flash fxp, I try to connect to 192.168.0.3 but no luck. I just get time out every time. Firewall is disabled. Any other ideas on what might be wrong?
handyguy Nov 29, 2003, 06:26 PM 192.168.0.3
192.168.0.1
Shouldn't those two match?
Spart Nov 29, 2003, 07:54 PM huh?

Hello :), 1st off if you're using a router. It should b setup for dhcp so that u wont have 2 b bothered with the ip settings. 2nd off ... what dash r u using on the box ??? Evox, Avalaunch, or UnleashX ? 3rd. do the 1st step then make sure your pc picks up its own ip number then power up your box. 4th from that point on it should work. thats how mine is setup.
u can learn something from everybody :).
Spart Nov 30, 2003, 11:28 AM Thanks, gonna give it that a try. Using exox btw.
Thanks again. I'll let ya know how it goes.
Spart Nov 30, 2003, 02:00 PM No luck still. heres a few more details.
I stoped setting my laptop ip to static. now its 169.254.130.92 and the subnet is 255.255.0.0
I took the static option off my xbox and now i just get 0.0.0.0. Im using a netgear ethernet switch with one cat 5 going to the laptop and one cat 5 going to the xbox.
Thanks
dexterm99 Nov 30, 2003, 02:56 PM your laptop needs to have the ip 192.168.0.1 first off, but your xbox has to be configured to get an ip from dhcp. so set the static ip to 'no' on your xbox and that should work.
I recomend buying a crossover cable if you don't have one already and give your PC the ip I've already mentioned and your Xbox 192.168.0.10 for example as it's a lot faster.

Spart Nov 30, 2003, 04:56 PM Tried that with no luck also. think im gonna just buy a crossover cable since I cant get it to work this way.
Thanks
handyguy Nov 30, 2003, 07:09 PM I have a netgear router but not a switch.
Spart Dec 02, 2003, 04:56 PM Bump...
Any more help???
I work on a cruise ship, so its hard as hell for me to find a cross over cable. Any more help on getting this to work with a ethernet switch is greatly apreciatted.
Thanks,
Spart

These should not match handyguy. If you set them the same then you will never make a connection.
Spart you have changed your story from router to switch? which is it?
Assuming you do have a switch (as you say you do in the last post) then you seem to be doing the right thing.
Try doing these steps mate:
a) Set laptop IP to 192.168.0.1 subnet 255.255.255.0 (and reboot laptop)
b) Set IP on XBOX to 192.168.0.2 subnet 255.255.255.0 (reboot xbox with cable connected!)
c) Test the connection by 'start>run>command' and typing ping 192.168.0.2
d) post your results here and we will continue!
