I have some obtained some copied movies these are direct from the Originals - Question I have is

When trying to play through the surround sound system I have none of them give me the option for DD or 5:1 now is this due to the Film being copied or is it something else
For example I have some Scooby doos wich only give me stero sound
and some other retails wich will give me 5:1

does the extra sound take up valuable space on the disc hence it is cut down in order to fit

Im thinking of getting some Music DVDs but dont realy want to do this if the sound is only going to be stero or 5:1 at very best

Your input would be appreciated as I dont understand the link between the various outputs

Thanks

Whoever made the copies would have chosen which audio tracks to keep and dispose of, to reduce file sizes.
It's normal practice to dispose of 2 ch sound and keep 6ch sound, but maybe the guy who copied them only had 2 ch sound himself and kept that instead. Also some older films may not have had 6ch.

If you want to purchase Music DVDs, check with your supplier that they have 6ch (5.1) sond, before parting with your cash.

Not sure what you mean, 5.1 is the very best at this point. There are, however, 3 different ways to encode 5.1 audio to DVD.
1. DD (Dolby Digital)
2. DTS 5.1
3. 24 bit 96khz DVD audio

Dolby Digital and DTS are compressed formats. On a really good system, you can hear artifacts. 24bit 96khz is the best and sounds incredibly pure.
