Hi-

A friend of mine told me whom works at FYE (For Your Entertainment), she states that when you use the playstation 2 to view dvds it wears out the laser? Makes it fail pre-maturely? Is this true???

My standalone DVD player is taking a dump after only 3 years. I think its a heat issue. All of a sudden it stops playing then starts scanning chapters but never plays... I then have to shut it off to allow it to cool for about a half hour then play again.. I can only get about 30 minutes out of it cold till it does this....

But again, I am considering buying a P2 for my sons for this Christmas and using it as a dvd player also? Is this a bad Idea?

Sorry to post here, Not sure where else to post it?

Thanks again

It's designed to play DVDs so you should get good use from at if you are planning to play games as well as DVD movies. Like anything if you use it it will wear out, the more you use it the faster it wears out.

IMHO the people who complain that playing DVD movies killed their PS2 are the same people that are playing games & watching movies on it 10 hours a day, then wonder why it burned out so soon - must be the DVD movie right, not the fact they've played the thing to death!

BTW as a PS2 question it belongs in the PS2 forum.

I personally wouldn't recommend watching movies on a regular basis on your PS2. Seeing as how decent DVD Players are dirt cheap right now, why not pick up both.
