The Lite-On will write at 8x but only to a certain type of 4x DVD+R. I checked out tests done on these and most 4x DVD+R brands still only burn at 4x. That and quality 4x DVD-R is a bit cheaper than 4x DVD+R. Pioneer will also give you more media flexibility. Either way though the difference in writing times (assuming you are able to get the disc to write at a full 8x) is 7-8 minutes MAX!!!!!!! A 4x writer will write to a DVD-R/+R in 15-16 minutes.
