my friend asked weather to buy pioneer 106 or liteon 4x write on - and 8x write on the plus any avice please

pioneer is better than a liteone I would say.

Yup I would suggest Pioneer over the Lite-On as well. The Lite-On will write at 8x but only to a certain type of 4x DVD+R. I checked out tests done on these and most 4x DVD+R brands still only burn at 4x. That and quality 4x DVD-R is a bit cheaper than 4x DVD+R. Pioneer will also give you more media flexibility. Either way though the difference in writing times (assuming you are able to get the disc to write at a full 8x) is 7-8 minutes MAX!!!!!!! A 4x writer will write to a DVD-R/+R in 15-16 minutes.

Pioneer all the way....

Ive been told to stay away from the new liteon 8x writer until the second version comes out of it. It sounds like there is lots of Teething problems with it which will be fixed in the next model.
