i have been trying to convert a full mpeg film into dvd! after around 5 hours of encoding etc i have a dvd! but i thought to myself this cant be right! i checked out an old copy of terminator 3 i had from a trader the file size on disc was 1.5 gig which would be the same size that the film would be in mpeg format!
on the disc was an audio and video ts folders inside the video_ts folder was 3 vob files one was 46k the other 2 were 800mb each! so my question is how is this done without re encoding and creating a large 4gig file!

any help would be great!

The T3 you had was probably a VCD to DVD convert.

What program did you use? What was the orignal source? Mpeg? Mp3? The more detail you give, the better chance someone will be able to help you.

i dowmload bin files extract them with vcdgear join them using tmpenc mpeg tools!
but the t3 finished size on disc was 1.5gig when i convert using mainconcept mpeg encoder then authour with tmpenc author i end up with a 4gig file! but the qualtys no better so its a waste of time!

Re-encode only the audio then and leave the video as VCD res MPEG1.

I just drag a MPG to the data window in Nero & then it asks if I want to convert & I say yes & it does the convert then writes all by itself.

Use TMPGEnc to demultiplex it then use say BeSweet to resample/re-encode.

I believe there are some compatibilty issues with BeSweets AC3 output though so if you want AC3 you might want to try something else like SoftEncode, Sonic Scenarist or possible ffmpeg although it may suffer the same issues as BeSweet.
