Got a compaq presario 710us, with an amd duron 1ghz processor. Problem is I am having a hard time getting it out, there is no lever to unlock it. It has a small plastic square with a small opening on each side of the processor socket. One square has a lock symbol and other side has the unlock symbol. I tried sticking a small flathead screw driver to slide it over, but am afriad of breaking it. I email compaq, and they said there is no instructions on how to remove it, since the processor is not a user replacable part.
Does anybody have a clue how to do this?

You need to slide over that tab. You're just going to have to try a little harder to slide it over and just be carefull about breaking it.

Only problem is the tabs are arent movable, they part of the socket and mobo.

If it's anything like the last compag laptop I've taken apart then the tab is movable. It was just very stiff. The top part of the socket would actually move with the tab.

I got to stop getting into these situations. Should have known this was coming.
Anyways, I think I am going to take to Radio Shack and have them show me, Since I dont want to break it, its not mine and dont want to responable for busting it. Thanks anyway
