I was told if i updated my bios i could install more recent ram sticks. Like two 512mb SDRAM sticks to give me a total of 1gig instead of havin a cap on it at 512.

I also want more options on my bios settings. Right now i have very lil options i cant even edit AGP properties(i wana change the AGP properties to 128 cuz its my video card type not 64 as it is set*see blow on Mobo chipset*).

Does anyone know where i can download the drivers for my motherboard/bios?

Here is the information i have on my bios/motherboard.

Thanks!

You AGP Aperture size doesnt relate to what kind of video card you have diredtly. Have a look for some more info.

So where can i download the update online? I know i can order a diskette from places online(http://www.esupport.com/biosupgrades/) but where online can i just download it instead of ordering a disk? I can always download and make a disk instead of ordering one and paying for shipping.

Also will updating allow me to install more memory? Or not?
Thank you Copyright for the AGP Aperture Size.

I still wana update for the recent advancements in technology over the 3yrs. Even if i dont get new features.

You need to find out the brand of your mobo first, and then go to the manufacturers site.

There you will find out what the bios update does. Most bios updates cannot allow you to install more memory. There are exceptions which are rare, however, some allow you to install larger sticks of memory eg 256 sticks instead of 128.

Your mobo sounds like it's made by a PC manufacturer like IBM or DELL etc with an Intel onboard graphics chip.

If you don't know what the board is, then use either something like AIDA32 (http://www.aida32.hu/aida32.php) or, get the FCC ID number off the board.

The number is printed usually on the edge of the board or on a sticker.

Once you have the number, check on the FCC ID (http://www.fcc.gov/) site.

If you aren't sure, post back with your mobo details.

I cant find the FCC ID on the mobo. I also was using AIDA32 when i gave my information in the first place. My pc is a SONY VAIO. I got it in Dec. 2001. That site i listed earlier has a upgrade for bios but i dont wana order a disk i just wana download it.

I'm not really sure that it's a good idea to flash your bios, especially since you really don't know what if any advantages it might give you. You need to track down the exact model of the motherboard.

Turn the system power off.
Unplug your keyboard or hold down one of the keys on the keyboard
Power-on the system (you should get a keyboard error)
Look for the long string of numbers in the lower left hand corner of your screen. Write down all the numbers and/or letters and post them here.

If its a Sony then the only place you go looking for bios upgrades is Sony.

Forget that site. They sell bios chips and are next to useless.

If you purchased your PC new, then you know the exact model.

Have a look on the Sony site for your model Vaio, or Elaine's suggestion works with most bios's.

That is me system. It has no bios updates just minor updates and patches. I will try to get that other (restart) information soon.

Mate, that link doesn't tell me a thing!

Have you discovered what your PC is yet?

It's this simple. Once you discover the model, look on SONY's VAIO SUPPORT SITE (http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/).

If they don't have a flash available, then that's it.

Personally, I don't see why you want one.

There is only one bios flash available, but it has nothing to do with memory.

The following is what the flash does.

Update for the system BIOS to improve system stability after resume from standby in the Microsoft® Windows® XP Operating System.

AWA4LVXNGE.EXE Dated 7/31/2002.

If you aren't having problems as above, then I strongly urge you to leave it alone.

If you still want to go ahead at your own risk, I can't supply a link using Sony's crappy site, so use the link I have provided earlier and either do a search using AWA4LVXNGE.EXE or PCV-RX540.

There are other downloads available, but they are for VAIO software and not bios.

Not as far as memory is concerned, no.
