Just got the freeserve broad band package as it is a 1 month free trial.

But I have to wait for 10 days to activate!!!

Does any one know if the ativation 10 days starts when you plug the Modem in or when I signed up to it on the internet.

Has any one had any problems using an exstention cable in the same room from the main wall socket in there home. (just wondering if that would slow down the time I have to wait for Freeserve to connect my Broadband service)

Thanks again

You will get an email to confirm the activation date, extention wont slow down, but can cause problems from experience, thats why BT only recommend using the primary socket for connection.

Thanks.

I have my PC about 10 meaters away from PC, do you think it would work better if I went out and bought a 10 meater modem cable?

I signed up the day broadband became available in my area. I was quoted 10 days by BT for activation, it took 2.

As for the extension, well I use the same 10 metre extension I used to use for my 56k (cost me all of £2.49!)

Also, my dog (puppy) bit through my external ADSL modem connecting wire - I cut the end off the extension and twisted the bare wires of the modem to the bare wires of the extension then taped them up. It's been like this for about 3 months now and I still have average download speeds of 59KB/sec!

One thing though is make sure you have the latest drivers for your modem - when I started on broadband I used to get speeds of 53-54 and updating to the latest drivers gave me the 59-60 I see now.
