Hi, I have a brand new Silver V9 PS2 fitted with a Messiah 2,
and i was just wondering how long it will last if it is used for about an hour everyday?? because ive heard that eventually your laser will wear out after a while.....
so if you could let me know that would be great thanks!!

Im afraid there is no answer to this question, How long is a piece of string? It could last 5 years or even 5 days chipped or unchipped its down to the console, but best sticking to quality dvdr media and stay away from cdr rips/games unless originaly released on cd. My V3 Messiah lasted 2 years without any probs dont know if its still going now as i sold it when i purchased a V7 but have a V9 M2 silver one now like yourself which ive had for over 2 months now and working like the day i got it.

My v5 messiah works fine still ,had it for about a year and 4 months.Play everything on it ,dvd-r ,cd-r ,dvd rips ,films.Play it everyday and still working great ,but the v3 I had before was a piece of **** ,did'nt play any backups at all ,only originals.

Make sure you get a DVD lens cleaning disc and run that at least once a month. Don't run any DVD rips, use good media, etc. Should last a while if you follow these steps.

have the very 1st ps2 and still going strong ,fitted with neo 2.2 pain in the bum swapping but small price to pay.
like people say good quality media burnt at 1 speed,
the faster the burn speed the harder the lens works reading so i understand

I agree with all that has been said above. I have a Version 5 PS2 that I purchased 2 years ago come january but I didn't mod it until about a month ago, either way though it still works perfectly. As mentioned avoid rips, use good media and especially for CD-R backups (for CD Based Games) use the slowest speed possible for burning.
