Myself and my brother bought brand new Version 9 PS2's last week and we both got the Magic V50K chip. Today my PS2 started making clicking noises and took a while to load DVD games. Now it freezes when loading up games. I know that it has something to do with the laser. Would a DVD cleaner fix the problem or is my laser a dud?

Sounds like something may be loose on the laser. Try removing the top and starting the PS2 to see where the noise comes from.

Oooohhh...

Could be, and is also sounding like the dreaded V9 problem.. Give the laser a clean mate failing that you may need either a new laser or even a new LA chip which controls the laser alignmen/focus e.t.c.

V9's are notorious for this chip overheating and frying when they've been chipped. Hopefully your problem is a simple one.

Mike.

Thanks for the responce, guys. Jaice, I was gonna open it up but the guy who did my chip put a sticker over one of the screws so if I break it then I void my chips warranty. I tried a DVD lens cleaner but the PS2 said 'No Data Found'. So I called the guy up and he said to bring it in. Spagboll, I hope for my sake and others that the chip overheating isn't a common thing with the V9 PS2 because around where I live (NYC) it's hard to find a store that has any version other than 9.

Once again thanks for the replys.:)

Quick Update:

I took my PS2 back to the guy and he said the problem was infact the chip. He's gonna order another one and see if it causes the same problem.

IF he sorts it by replacing the chip ask him to put some extra heat sink compound over the LA chip, just incase....
