xbmp it's stable and tried and true.
until xbmc goes final then i say go with it. there's a cvs build every other day and just a waste IMO for what it's worth.

cvs build

What does that mean again?

cvs is a daily compile of the source code.
xbmc is being constantly worked on, and they release a compile every other day or so for people to play with.. bug fixes, new features etc.

Stick with 2.4, tried and tested.

Why not get both? Xbmc is alot cleaner (only a few hundred files instead of a few thousand like xbmp). Xbmc also plays certain codecs that my xbmp wouldn't. True xbmc still is a little buggy and will occasionally freeze up. So definitely keep your xbmp but if you have some spare time get xbmc and play around with it.

Brendan,
in the root of the xbmp folder, rename xbplayer.xbe to default.xbe. I'm not sure if this is the correct way of doing it, but this was the only way I could get it to appear in my apps menu.

Otherwise, great tool!

hi, yeah i know what you mean about renaming but the thing is theres no xbe file in the whole of the files i downloaded, so my guess is ill have to find somwhere else to download it as my one i downloaded hasent got any xbe file in any of the folders nowhere, the one i downloaded must of had the xbe file missing then:[

Yep, there are two sets of files you need. The source files and the cvs files.

You can find both sets on #xbins

install both!!! i like xbmp better because of the interface, but xbmc will play some stuff that xbmp will not, so i use xbmp when possible, when it does not work i go with xbmc.

I agree with the above comments.

Also, a lot of functionality is still LACKING in XBMC -- like flexibly configuring your aspect ratios for instance.

However, if you have an HDTV, you'll see dramatic improvements in compatibility with the new version. Also, I believe there is true native AC-3 pass thru available in XBMC.

And there clearly has been major improvements in the codecs.. I think its using a newer release of Mplayer (the linux/GNU based source code that XBM* are based upon) -- ie, no more annoying DiVX & XViD desynchronization of the audio.

Conclusion: Until XBMC goes to final keep both and use them back and forth. Ultimately XBMC will rock.. proably another 3 months away from that.

Cheers,
Mir
