Hi all,
I was messing around with pool2k4 and installed xbox live by mistake. After rebooting, evox dash no longer appears, the original dashboard does.
I ftp'ed to the box and took at look at the C:\ contents. There were a couple of new folders and files which I deleted. I checked the ini file and it looked fine so I assumed it was the msxboxdash.xbe and xboxdash.xbe. I overwrote the existing files and booted succesfully into the evox dash.
There is one problem. The following items are in red:

ms dashboard
power off
reboot
skins
backup

There are 2 things that can cause this:

- wrong version of evox dashboard
- ini file pointing to wrong sections

ps: evox 1.8.2812 is installed

I've run outta ideas :(

Tia!

I forgot to add, I have an original backup of the h/d before it was modded.
I can erase and reload the C:, but which files do I backup? xboxdash.xbe, msdash.xbe, items.text, and evox.ini.

Update

Instead of pulling my hair out trying to figure out what files were replaced by xbox live and why the regular ms dash wouldn't work, i formatted the c: and dumped back the original contents.

PS: make sure to backup the following from the c:

audio
backup
bios
fonts
skin
evox.ini
items.txt
msxboxdash.xbe
xboxdash.xbe

Since I got this far, I upgraded the dash to evox v3935 and edited the ini file after adding xbmp v2.4 and pxhddloader v1.3.

Good stuff!

My son did the same thing, the fella who exploited it says it needs re-exploiting and cannot be retreived by myself, so am going to have it chipped, which I should have done in the first place.

Hi Skitty31,
what a pain, eh?
I'm not sure if a mod chip is necessary, but I used a evox boot disk to get back into the drive and replace the dashboards. Do your guy make a backup of the C:?
I'm not 100% positive, but I believe the slayers disk can correct the drive, not sure, tho...

don't delete stuff ever.........
what chip/bios are you using? if it's anything within the past year then nobody ANYWHERE EVER should have to rename their xboxdash.xbe for any reason at all. the tuts are old and all over the place... it's just really bad information. any bios put out in the last year boots evoxdash.xbe first. the msxboxdash.xbe crap is just slayers install bull. another reason it sucks IMO. leave your xbox files in tact and just copy over evox files...

There should be a tutorial on how to recover from having xblive installed. I've searched xbox-scene and couldn't find one.
That is why I have my drives backed up, just in case of instances like this.

This is all double dutch to me guys, bought a cheap x-box sent it to nonzero on the 23rd, the guy did brilliant in getting it back to me on xmas eve with exploit inserted, xmas eve night I tried it out, worked perfect, boy played on it and apparently entered x-box live somehow and updated everything and lost the exploit, my boy doesn't even know how he did it.
Nonzero said another exploit is needed, but with the special delivery and cost of exploit £60 for one hours play was enough for me, so mine is currently having a chip fitted.
I thought the x-box would have had to be connected to the net to re-set things, but obviously not.
Ps2 chips (messiah 2 ect) seem to be a lot less hassle than this b****cks.
