The theoretical maximum you could have is 2.2 Terrabytes. Stevensly Dec 27, 2003, 02:32 PM I've been waiting for a 300G. Around this area, the best I can find is 250G. 120G sure fills up fast when all your music/vidoes are added. Memphis Dec 27, 2003, 03:26 PM Yes, but the BIOS needs to be a patched one that allows for 48 bit LBA addressing. Your chip isn't actually flash upgradable so as is, you can only have a maz of 137Gb. JoshOooooo Dec 27, 2003, 07:05 PM Hi guys..Hope you have the patience to reply to this...... I have just bought an x box for my son and was wondering what mod chip should be used and what size hard drive should be installed. I do not have a contact to do this and was hoping someone could provide me with a location in manchester and a price to get it done. Thanks guys! Happy New Year! The_wolfman JoshOooooo Dec 27, 2003, 07:17 PM Its me again...Im so sorry...what a plonker...I didn't realise these posts where read all over the world. And here's me asking for a place near me to get my x box chipped lol. Doh!! Anyway the advice on what Mod chip and what size hard drive question still stands. <<<< Newbie Doh!! Somebody shoot me!! Cheers guys The_Wolfman brendon Dec 28, 2003, 02:07 PM Originally posted by Memphis Yes, but the BIOS needs to be a patched one that allows for 48 bit LBA addressing. Your chip isn't actually flash upgradable so as is, you can only have a maz of 137Gb. ahhh bugger, i dident know that, so the xecuter chips 1.0 and 1.1 are only able to use a 137gb hard drive max, i thought i could just put in a 250gb hd without flashing the bios, or if that dident work, flash my bios using the evox bios then i could use 250gb hd or 300gb hd, so both methods are no good if i got a xecuter 1.0 chip, i know the xecuter 1.0 and 1.1 chips are old now thats probably why then as theres been loads of new chips since the original xecuter chips, so the only way around this then is too chip my xbox with a newer chip, i cant be bothered with that would mean i would either have to flash my bios first then take out my xecuter chip then install a newer chip and then patch or flash the bios again? including the price of the new chip it just sounds like too much trouble, ill guess ill stick to getting a 120gb hd or a 137gb hd if i can find one on ebay. ........thanks for letting me know tho what the maximum hard drive is for the xecuter 1.0 1.1 chips. i would of wasted my money buying a 300gb hd too find out my xbox would only be able to use 137gb of it. Stevensly Dec 28, 2003, 04:09 PM Hi Brendan, I just fitted a system for my buddy: xbox v1.0 250G maxtor evox v3935 dash matrox mod w/ x2 v4979.06 (repack) bios Working smooth. (-8 ahh but your m8 has got a matrix chip thats why he can have a 250gb hard drive, i cant as i have the xecuter chip, apparently i can only have a maximum of 137gb hd in my xbox. Memphis Dec 28, 2003, 05:47 PM The reason you can only have a 137Gb drive is the BIOS on the chip, not the actual chip itself. Your chip would have come with a BIOS on it, I won't know which but an early one that won't have LBA-48 compatibility. You can't get that compatibility because your chip isn't flash upgradable i.e. You can't write a new, updated BIOS to it. So it's not your chip thats the problem, its the BIOS on it. brendon Dec 28, 2003, 06:20 PM Originally posted by Memphis The reason you can only have a 137Gb drive is the BIOS on the chip, not the actual chip itself. So it's not your chip thats the problem, its the BIOS on it. you know the xecuter 1.0 and 1.1 chips, like the chip my xbox is old, one of the first models, as far as i know {from what i have read a long time ago over various forums} once you have the xbox chipped with the xecuter 1.o or 1.1 chip you can then flash your xboxs bios and then should you wish you can remove the xecuter chip as it is no longer needed, as you still be able to play imports, copys and what not without the chip, so even if i flash my xboxs bios with the evoxs bios will i still be limited to 137gb?, also i heard if i flash my xbox with the wrong bios i can f$%k my xbox up, i dont want to upgrade my bios on my chip, i want to flash my xboxs bios, but if after flashing my xboxs bios im still not able to use a 250, 300gb hd then it would of been a waste of time. its a pity that microsoft kept changing updating the xbox with different versions, as if they kept with the version 1.0 xboxs then, you could use just 1 xecuter chip over and over again to chip loads of xboxs, just by flashing the xboxs bios then taking the chip out, then install the chip again on another xbox flash it, take chip and so on:] someone would of had a good service going and you wouldent need to buy chips, as one chip is all you need, i dont know what its like these days with all the new chips now, maybe you can do this already with just one chip. brendon Mar 20, 2005, 04:19 PM hi, ive got a 200 gig hd installed but i got nothink on g drive, still using xecuter 1.1 usa xbox old version 1.0 also i have obtainted the auto intaller deluxe disk, it has loads of bios's on it, when i get to the menu called flash bios, i clicked on it and it asks me flash chip with 25k bios, 512, 1mb bios or flash tsop with ms bios, what one do i choose?? it tells me i have a 256 xecuter in the top right hand corner, but reading your previous post you said i cant flash upgrade the bios on my chip anyway? so is there nothink i can do then to enable the full use of my 200gig hd as i have 63gigs going to waste. what about people who have xboxs that have chips they can upgrade to bigger hd by soft modding but how big of a hard drive can they fit? if they they can fit over 137gig then im sure i can somhow? sadalius Mar 21, 2005, 09:32 AM In any case, softmod or chip, the bios that your using has to be able to support lba48. There is a tool that you can download to see if yours does and if it doesn't, possibly add the support (this would depend on how old the bios is) save it and reflash the chip (if your using one) or place it back in the directory where your bfm (boot from media) bios is on your softmodded xbox. There are two tools available, just make sure to get the one for your bios. |
