i am having a prob with my hp 400i dvd burner. i am using dvd x copy xpress to try to burn dvd's. when i use my lg dvd burner i just put the movie in the source and the dlank dvd-r in the burner and it autodetects the media and burns it. when i use my hp burner i put the same media in and it reads the source movie to the harddrive but then it doesnt burn. i asked on the online help section and the person helping said that the burner was only compatable with the dvd+r media? when i go onto the future shop website it says that the same burner is compatable with both dvd-/r? i know my friend has the same burner and he can burn movies on dvd-r's so.. im not too sure whats going on. i am using fotis dvd media if that helps any..

I have never heard of that brand. Sounds like cheap generic junk to me. Anyways, have you checked the jumpers and made sure you have the latest update for DVD X COPY Xpress?

hp, cheap generic junk????? HP is the largest American computer company since there buy out of compaq. May not be as good of quality as dell or gateway, but a damn good 3rd.
The 400i is just a +r burner though. Sorry. There is talk though that there may be a firmware update to make it a dual, but that could be just an internet rumer. In general most people over here will tell you that it is one of the best +r buners you can buy(at least in the US) but why when you can get a dual for less money.

I was talking about the media that he was using and not the drive. ;) Although it is rediculous for HP to keep putting out + format only drives when for about the same cost you can pick up a dual format Pioneer or Sony which are just as good (if not better). HP makes some great printers but thier other products definitely have quality issues.

Sorry :o I should have known. Yes I agree they are lacking in just about every other area. It just blew my mind when I thought you were saying you had never heard of them.

Why not post on the dvdxcopy forum? They can let you know if their program supports your writer, which it may not.
