I am about to buy a Panasonic E50 and had a question about DVD-RAM

I read that you can take the disc out of the case if you want to use it in a computer, is this true for both single sided and double sided RAM or can you only take the single sided disc?

True for both but you need a DVD-ROM reader that can handle -RAM too of course.

I've toyed with buying the same drive but have been put off, you do realise that the Panny's will *NOT* write to DVD-RW discs? I know several people who have bought these recorders that did not and I'm glad they told me. Rumored to be fussy with -R discs too, the Toshiba DR-1 however records to everything including -RAM.

Thanks for that, knew I would have to get a new DVD-ROM/CD Writer drive to replace my Philips so now I am looking for a Compo drive that will accpet DVD-RAM, any ideas? only one I have found is the Samsung SM352-B for just under £50 but dont know if it is any good.

Also, I read about the E50 not liking certain dvd-r brands thats why I am going for the RAM to PC method, my Pioneer 105 will write what was on the RAM to the media I normally use after I have authored it, works out cheaper than getting a Recorder with HDD.

Panasonic's own drives..? e.g. SW-9572

They'll take RAM discs still in their caddies, so you can transfer stuff off double-sided discs no hassle

Yes, a bit fussy, but I've had no hassles with Riteks
