i have just d/l friday.avi (file is OK)
when open it up to convert to mpg (tmpgenc) it says the output file would be 200-250% of 1 dvd disc
i tried lowering the bitrat but at the minimum it was still 115% of a disc
is this a common problem?
i have done "dont be a menace" without hitch but i am a bit of a noobie
any help greatly appreciated

ok
to do any sort of avi to dvd you need the correct programs to make it a PERFECT COPY.
many programs which have built in convertors like cucusoft avi convertor as example have a very poor finishing quality.
if your going for the best of the best here is what i would advise.
DVD2SVCD
TMPGEnc DVD Author
Cinema Craft Encoder
BeSweet
DVD2SVCD is designed to work as the main figure to all the rest of the programs. It doesnt actually do anything, only really acts as a main workflow unit.
You need to open DVD2SVCD and get the settings correct.
This is a very long process to set up but once you have done that everything goes good from there on in.
Conversion usually takes around 2-3 hours depending on film size.
I am not prepared to fire up everything just now but i will certainly get a guide in place in order to help everyone as i was only recently shown this off a good friend.
But as i said.
This is defo the programs you need.
BeSweet will transcode your audio.
Cinema Craft will code your video file and sync the two together.
DVD author - to make your menu then burn
Hope this helps
