need more info on this, are you speaking of the notorious PAL V9 failures? If so I thought this issue wasn't present in V10's also its only concerned in PAL versions, NTSC isn't affected with this mystery.

There are tons of people out there with v9 & v10 NTSC systems chipped with no problems. I believe most of the v9 issues were confined to PAL consoles and the problems with NTSC v9 chip installs were not related. This is according to pro installers on the ps2newz.net forums anyway.

i read about this in some site
http://www.gamenews.com.hk/jan04.htm
In these couple of days, many customers complained that their PSX2 SCPH 50000 were out of order. This is because they had modchipped their consoles, and put in some bad quality backup disc to play. If the chipped PSX2 SCPH 50000 reads a bad disc, the modchip force the machine to retry and retry until the laser head and the controller IC are burned out!!! To avoid burning out the console, you need to turn of the machine immediately if you find that the disc is not working.
