develitate Jan 06, 2004, 02:38 AM I currently have a pioneer 104 and was thinking of getting and 106, then started looking at 8x burners and their not that much more. Is anyone using an 8X burner yet? Any comments on 8X good or bad? thanks Dave2986 Jan 06, 2004, 04:54 AM best to wait to see how the 8x + and - burners turn out, as no one really know their reliablity yet handyguy Jan 06, 2004, 11:53 AM Sony or Plextor. jesterrace777 Jan 06, 2004, 03:30 PM The Pioneer will have 8x DVD-R writing capabilities but it looks to cost a small fortune. I really don't think it's worth getting an 8x drive. You get a total savings of 7-8 minutes max over 4x, The really good drives are about $80 more than a solid 4x drive. GSM Super Star Jan 06, 2004, 05:21 PM The Pioneer 106 is really stable at 4x so its worth going for that. I think its one on the best around for the £££ at the moment :) handyguy Jan 06, 2004, 05:57 PM Im going to wait for a better one to come along. I don't know if the Sony is out yet. But a plextor only does 8x if you do a full disk otherwise it just does 4x & there aren't many ps2 games that use a full disk.. On the other hand some use 4x disks & write at 8x. jesterrace777 Jan 06, 2004, 10:19 PM The Sony is out right now but it is only 8x to DVD+R and not DVD-R. NEC just released one (the 2500 model) which does 8x to DVD-R and DVD+R. If it's anything like the 1300 then it will be problematic. However as long as they are on the ball for updates it would be a smart move for the price. I believe they are introducing it at around $150. develitate Jan 07, 2004, 12:15 AM right on, thanks everyone. Maybe ill just hand onto my a04 for a couple more months until they have been used/tested a little more. Any news about a pioneer 8x burner? because my a04 has been great. Ive looked at the sony, and its selling for around $200, but the 106 has dropped to around $120 shipped or less. jesterrace777 Jan 07, 2004, 01:13 AM I believe the 107/A07 is out now (8x burner) but as mentioned it is quite pricey. It's not worth it to spend over $300 on a dual format 8x burner when you can get the well proven 106 dual format burner for under $120 from www.accupc.com. The only difference is in the writing speed and as mentioned the max difference between 4x and 8x=7-8 minutes so it's not like you are saving a lot of time by burning at 8x vs. 4x. That and if you take a look at the price of a quality 8x disc vs. a quality 4x disc. . . .YIKES!!! Over $2.50 a disc for Ritek 8x DVD+Rs vs. 4x Ritek DVD-Rs which are around $1 a disc. handyguy Jan 07, 2004, 12:15 PM you can find plenty of info & user opinions, Left column, dvd writers at :http://www.dvdrhelp.com/ |
