Has anyone attempted to chip the new sony psx. I saw some pics of how lik-sang took it apart.

First off, I wouldn't think any current PS2 chips would work with this. Secondly, devs have to get a hold of one to try to work it. And these things are not cheap. So that means that it's a niche market and it might not be worth the trouble or expense to try to dev a chip for this new version of the console. That's just my guess. Who knows, maybe HK or someone is working on a mod as we speak. :)

It's not a bad machine but the fact that it is over $700 is just plain rediculous. :eek: I could buy all three of the latest consoles, and a nice DVD Burner for my computer for that price with about $200 to spare.

usb 1.0
no multiap support
horrible online support (if any)
no capturing video game playback with tivo capabilities
no support for ps2linux
dvd writer only for a/v captures (which i assume is for direct recording to dvdr, not hdd backup)
fixed capture resolution with tivo
more games wont work on it
only works with tv's for a monitor device

basically its a 2 HDD unit that can play ps2 games not to their full potential.

650usd = psx

-----------

250 = lowend pc with 120gig hdd
120 = nice dvdwriter
60 = capture card that can capture above ps2 res
!!! = the fact that its a PC and you can do ANYTHING with it

its a no brainer to me, i wouldnt even buy it if it was 300usd.

dont get me completly wrong though, its cool in its own right being 2in1 type of deal, but i think just about anybody who is anybody knows its a rip off, compared to what you can do with a PC and buying a seperate ps2. i think most of us wouldnt bother buying it unless we somehow feel into a crazy position to pick it up dirt cheap. just dont think anybody will be racing out to buy this one.

btw the advertising for it is going to be REALLY hard to convience people to buy it for that price. i mean seriously think about that. you see a commercial on tv for it and are like "hey yeh thats cool i'll try it", when you get to the store and see the price your like "wow im not that stupid".

Yup, as nuts as the Japanese get over thier electronics I cannot possibly see how this would make it over there. I seriously doubt we will see a chip for the PSX simply because there isn't any demand for it. Only a small percentage of people are buying it and of that percentage a much smaller percentage are considering getting the thing chipped. Simple Economics just don't add up there.

Your right I just thought maybe an already existing chip might work on this. I guess they revamped the whole thing.
