There are good and bad experiences with all modchips. However Magic's seem to have more than thier fair share of problems. Don't get me wrong, there are a bunch of people who use Magic chips and don't have any problems but if you compare the record of the Magic chips to say Messiah 2 Pros or DMS3 chips then you will notice a HUGE difference. The other problem is that there are a number of cheap clones running around that people are selling as Magic chips. You get what you pay for. ;)

I have a magic 3.1 chip and i haven't had any problems with it. It has booted my PS2 orignals, PS2 dvd backups, PS2 cd backups, and PS1 backups all with no problems.

i had a V7 ps2 with magic 3.1. it doesn't have 90% sucessful booting rate for dvd-r and it's even worst for dvd+r/+rw. i traded it for a V6 and fitted with a messiah 2, now i am really impress and appreciate with messiah 2. people with messiah 2 all along are spoiled by them because they are so hassle free and easy to use.
