what do you lot think of this player or can someone recommend a good player for a reasonable price..

Can't recommend anything specific, but I've had experience with a ton of different car stereo brands and I would highly recommend against a Sony. They typically skip quite a bit when compared to other players and they have a short lifespan by comparison also. Pioneer is what I usually go for. Excellent lasers, rarely skip and usually last for years and years. I did however have a problem with my last Pio with the volume button shorting out but that was after the stereo was about 6 years old.
JVCs and Kenwoods also get my recommendation for the CD players but can't say either way about their radio reception.
http://www.crutchfield.com/ is a good place to compare specs and whatnot.

Sony's seem to be getting returned quicker than they are selling for manu faults it seems, leave well alone if I were you. My old man went thru 3 units in a week and the last replacement was dead. :(
Spend a bit more money and buy an Alpine, you would have forgotten about the extra money a few weeks later and be safe in the knowledge that you have the best. The 9812RB/RR is a cracking unit with 60W per channel and will play mp3 and wma. List price is £370 but you can buy online for only £237 here:- http://www.letsbuycaraudio.com/main/buy?cat=cdTuners&make=16&product=1297
I'm very happy with mine. :)

Stay away from Sony, how about getting a reconditioned or secondhand Kenwood?, They do a model called KDC-MP6090R, which unlike the newer low priced Kenwoods has the Mask Feature.
I got one off Ebay for 110 last week and am really pleased with it.
If your bu8dget allows the newer mp7024 looks good at around 215 online.
Hope this helps

thanks for the replys
I think i'll try and have a look around the car audio shops to have a listen to some.
the Sony seemed like a good buy but I have second thoughts now.
re kenwoods, I have an old KDC9050r CD player with the mask system thats still going strong after about 5 years so I might have a look at some kenwoods.

I have the Kenwood 6090...I have it for about 3 years and its still going strong...The newer models look a lot more attractive, but hey, why get rid of something if it still works 100%? ;-) I definately would recommend any Kenwood, but they are costly.
A friend has the Sony CDMPX40, and I think its awesome. Looks cool, sounds great, great features. He only has it for about 6 months now, so thats not really an indication of the quality.
One gripe I have with the Sony Front Loaders though, is the hiss at low volume. This MP40 has the hiss problem, another friend of mine has the CDXMP30 with the same problem, and a few years ago I bought a Sony Xplod (can't remember the model number) with the same problem. Its very irritating when you're running amplifiers with tweeters hooked up to them. In fact, that was the reason I sold my Xplod. The Kenwood did'nt have that problem and I still use it 3 or more years later...
Oh yes, another gripe with the Sony's,....the remote does'nt have a numeric keypad so you cannot directly jump to a specific track. You have to press skip a hundred times to get to track 100 on your disc. Not very clever...
