Just got a Memorex dual-x. Backed up Jason-X with CloneDVD (+anydvd) on to the supplied Memorex dvd+rw. Works fine in all my pc's and standalones. By far the most popular disks seem to be the Ritek dvd-r's or. Has anyone tried using these with this burner? (will use mainly for backing up movies) Local stores sell disks for $2.00 ea. The cheapest being Sam's with Verbs at 50 for $59.00 +tax. but other posts seem like verbs are hit and miss depending on the dye. Thanks for any help.

Riteks work well with pretty much any writer. Even the picky NEC 1300A seems to like them. You can get 4x Ritek DVD-R in a 50 pack from www.newegg.com for $54-$55. I know the Verbs at Samsclub are 2x or 2.4x (Depending on whether you go DVD-R or DVD+R). Or you can get the 1x (possibly 2x on your writer) Riteks in a 50 pack from them for just under $43. You can find 100 packs of both 4x and 1x/2x Riteks for under $1 a disc +shipping.

What about Memorex? Best Buy has 50 for 49.99? The memorex that came with my burner worked fine and DVD ID says "ricohjpn" Checked newegg and they are sold out of most Riteks.( I have bought from newegg in the past ) They have 50 for 49.99 They also have a couple of other Riteks 50-59.99 .....which is which?

Okay, the problem with brand name discs is that they often change out the dye on thier discs. The dye is what is important, not the brand. The Memorex DVD+R discs are supposed to be better than their DVD-R discs. If they carry the Ricoh dye (DVD+R) then you should be fine. However if they carry another one then who knows. This is why I prefer to buy unbranded discs as there is never any guess work as to which dye you get. Ritek manufacters thier own dye as do several other companies. So if you are sticking to DVD+R then I would shoot for unbranded Ricoh's if you can find them and for DVD-R I would go with unbranded Ritek/Ridata.

jesterrace 777, just a quick note, After alot of searching I found what might be useful info. Memorex -r are from cmc and +r are from Ricoh. Will go with Ritek when newegg gets some in. Thanks for your help!

That is correct. As a general rule Memorex DVD-R carry the CMC dye and the Memorex DVD+R carry the Ricoh dye. As always though there is some variation.
