i read all the tutorials about installing 120 gb hd, but i'm confused in some web site it didn't mention of unlocking hdd and some did so what can i do is it important to unlock hdd first then install on xbox.

If the hard drive is brand new then it is already unlocked. Locking is a manual process, unless you do it, it won't be locked. A new disk will never come locked.

You only have to lock the hard disk if you want to turn your chip off, say for Live.

6. In the left hand window, select the drive that you intend to install in your Xbox

Note: Be VERY careful choosing the correct drive. If you select the wrong drive, you will almost certainly lose all system data on your computer.

7. Select the “Only 1st 4096 sectors of partitions” option in the “Zeroing” box
8. Click “Prepare” and let it do its magic!
9. Once the utility has finished, shut down your computer, remove the IDE cable and power cable from the HDD and take the HDD out of your computer case.

why don't you use slayer 2.5 in a disc then select format hdd?, i think it is easier than all that.

u mean to say it is important to format a new hd that us going to use on xbox

i think i read that it will make all the partitions necessary, you know, c,d,e,f,x,y,z, easier than ftp.

M8, forget any HDD prep tools or anything you may or may not have heard about zeroing your drive in the PC. Here is the absolute simplest way of doing it:

1) Buy new hard drive.
2) Set new hard drive jumpers to Cable Select.
3) Bung new hard drive in Xbox.
4) Boot Slayers or EvoX CD if configured in ini with format instructions.
5) Select the option you want in Slayers or choose format in EvoX.
6) If booting with EvoX, FTP in and copy original C and E drive.

Personally I suggest you go with the Slayers install option. I'm not being trying to be arrogant, but I think it would be easier for you.

i agree with memphis but imho i think it would be easier if you do everything from slayer.

i have to set jumpers to cable select what is this mean and my evox don't have option of formating andwhat is slayer 2.5 is this is a utility.

when you buy the new hdd it should come already configured to cable select, anyway, when you get your new hdd check the back of it and you'll see the jumpers and on the top you can read cable select, master and slave, set the jumpers to the one you want, never slave, not in this case, as i said, they normally comes with cable select pre selected, atleast maxtor does.

get slayer 2.5, unrar it and burn the image (iso) to a cdrw and boot the xbox with it, then select format the hdd, i haven't done this yet , i'm still waiting for my new hdd to arrive, but this is what i've read in many pleces, else, get evolution x latest version then you have to configure the.ini file (with the tutorial you read) and make and iso of it and then boot the xbox with this, i bulieve that with slayer it easier, if i'm wrong please someone correct me.

Sorry to disagree lancerx, but not all hard drives come preset to cable select. I personally have never actually bought a disk that came set to cable select, not even my brand new 160Gb Maxtor ;) .

tiduspk - Do yourself a favour and forget everything I put in there about EvoX. Acquire Slayers. If your looking in the right places, Slayers is the only thing you need to know. lancerx has just told you what to do with it.

I'm gonna suggest as well you look at some of the getting started tutorials over on Xbox-Scene as well, purely because all of this is fairly basic stuff and has been covered many times.

oops, i got four hdds bought in in a year 1/2 for my office and house, all of them maxtor but none of them higher than 120 gb, and they all came cable select preset, well, i guess that it was a coincidence. thanks for the info memphis:)

Anyway tiduspck, it's not hard at all to select the jumpers, trust me, once you see it, it'll be easy to find out, good luck.

That's what we are saying. Whack the drive in your Xbox and use Slayers, easy as that, no PC involved.

Afraid you cant ask for that kind of software m8, that bit is up to you.
