This week I ordered 100 infiniti 2x Dvdr's (Ritek Dye) from a UK website. When they arrived I checked the disc ID I was surprised to find that they were 'Sony' (although the delivery note that came with them also stated 'RITEK'. Checking back to the website they had changed the description of the discs to 'SONY' !
Not too happy I called the websites customer services and they told me that although the ID of the discs were 'SONY', the dye was actually 'RITEK' as 'SONY' had been in partnership with Ritek to create these discs. This being the case I asked why they had changed the description on the website to 'Sony'. I was told that this was because they had received a new batch of discs that were NOT Ritek anymore but actually SONY !
So according to customer services both the ID's for these discs would both give 'Sony' although my discs are actually Ritek and the new batch are SOny !

Incidentally, the colour of my discs look nothing like the deep purple of any Riteks Ive ever seen and on burning a few I have found them to be of inferior quality to any Ritek discs I have ever used (freezing / skipping towards end of discs)

Does anyone have any thoughts on this transaction ? Ever heard of this partnership between SONY and RITEK.

Basically the website are refusing to refund me on the basis that I have been sent what I ordered.

Hi there

I that the same thing on an order from LOTD.
I used to order Infiniti RITEK DVD-Rs from them, no problem, great disks.
They went out of stock and on reappearing on the website ordered some more from them. Still stated they were RITEK, but checked them and found them to be SONY.
Send them back, noticed now that they have changed the description on their web site.

SONY and RITEK are not the same..RETURN THEM

I might totally be wrong but i'm pretty sure sony does not make dvd-r. I remember reading that somewhere, and that any dvd-r with sony ids are actually dodgy taiwan crap.

Take them back, tell them that they false advertised, then lied to on the phone. Cause sony is not partnered with ritek. They changed it probably because too many people found out there litle scam. Threaten them, if they dont want to refund your money, then dispute the chardges with your cc company. Too many damn websites advertising false sh1t and getting away with it.

I pretty much thought I was being bullsh*tted to by customer services. Yes it was Lordofthedeals.co.uk. I add that the customer services person was very unhelpful - moaning at me that she has 300 emails per day and that was why she hadnt responded (funny how they responded quick enough when I sent my order).

I asked her if there was anyway to tell the difference between an Infinity Ritek Disc (SONY ID) and an Infinity Sony Disc (SONY ID). She told me 'no, not really...'.

What a load of crap ! 1st time I have bought from Lordofthedeals and most DEFINITELY the last time. Will stick to digitalpromo and svp.

Tell them that you are a member of several on-line DVD Forums and if they do not exchange/refund you, then you will be posting details of their false advertising/unhelpful attitude, on all of them.

That may just bring your email to the top of the pile ;)

You have nothing to lose, but they may consider their reputation/future business with thousands of potential customers, from the Forums.

LOTD used to have someone spamming all over the forums here. I have no love for them since they continue to engage in false advertising. They are still claiming the Infinity DVD-Rs are Ritek dye when in fact they are not. Stick to Unbranded Ritek/Ridata or Traxdata and you won't have to deal with these problems anymore. They are more expensive but you are guaranteed to get Grade A Ritek dye on them straight from Ritek themselves. ;)

Yip, these muppets are going to get their discs back regardless.

This really gets on my goat, I stopped buying Princo discs 4 months ago (no matter how cheap) to prevent this sort of hassle, now this happens.

At least some good may come from this - anyone reading this let this be a warning - dont buy from lordofthedeals.

Infiniti had a partnership with ritek but sony certainly didnt, my advice is to send them back and ask for riteks or a refund as theyve sold you goods you didnt order.

Not nearly as good as Ritek and they are often about the same price so it isn't worth it.

These Infiniti in question were absolute trash. Freezing and skipping all the way through / some coasters unable to be read back on the Pioneer A04 that burnt them (at 1x). Obvious marks / spots on the dye before and after burning.

Avoid like the plague.

Odd that, because I've been able to burn these at 8 speed on a hacked Pioneer A07 with no issues at all. Which for a 2 speed disc is fairly impressive, lol. I've even supplied around 50 of these, written at 8x, to a guy at work whose DVD player is an absolute sod and these are one of the few discs that play correctly (in the past I've had to use G04 at 2x which has annoyed me no end, and I was impressed with the Ritek compatibility at that point!!)

They are not Riteks, no way, they are in fact manufactured by Prodisc which I guess doesn't sound so good.

If Lord Of The Deals have been advertising these as Ritek, then I agree that TBH trading standards want to be called in really.

Never mind. I've actually found these to be a cracking deal at 22p each (advertised as Sony now) but it seems their reputation has taken a huge hit here.

I guess you dont like this guy ..... Am I right ? :D
He's gonna be a bit disappointed in 6-12 months time, when all the data has disappeared aint he ?

I know everybody wants a bargain and fully agree with the principle "why pay more than you need", but cheap disks are bad news.
Most newbies mess with them for a while and learn the hard way, but you wont find many experienced or long term users, wasting their time with them.
I was speaking to a trader on BST recently, who told me blatantly that he uses any old cheap crap, when selling, but only uses the best for his own use.

I dont want to get into an argument about whether Ritek are better than Princo, but I know which ones I would choose, irrespective of my burner.
If a burner has problems with known good media, it's more likely the firmware is at fault... not the Burner.

That's a standard response when faced with the idea that a disc that's apparently no good turns out to burn rather well with another writer/firmware....

I've carefully tested the discs I've written, and found that the low-level error rates -- the major cause of failure 6 months down the line -- are low. I'm fairly confident, and will replace the discs if I'm wrong.

You don't know any more than I do how long these discs will last. If you're basing your theory on other brands, that's a pretty poor basis for an argument if you ask me.

However, given that Prodisc media has been shown in one survey to outlast Ritek in accelerated aging tests, I respectfully disagree with you :D

Most newbies mess with them for a while and learn the hard way, but you wont find many experienced or long term users, wasting their time with them.

I trust you're including me in the small number of the latter here rather than being patronising. I was telling people to look at the ATIP on CDRs when everyone on here was referring to "Memorex are crap, Nugen great" etc.

Well ... like I said, I don't really want to get into argument about this and was certainly not being patronising my friend, but I do feel that it is necessary to put the record straight.
I dont hear anyone else singing the praises of Infiniti disks, in fact there are 2 users on this thread alone, who have had issues with them and would not agree with your findings. I also had the misfortune to be given one of these in a sample mutipack, which made a good coaster.

You say you are using a Pioneer 107 with hacked firmware, which is a completely different scenario to many users here, who have Pioneer 103's. 104's,105's , 106's and other brands of drive, that are much less forgiving when writing to cheap media. ....."Power Calibration Error ... I hear them cry"

Also many of the cheap brands change their dyes like the weather, so you may well get a good batch today, but next week they may have changed and will be useless, so it would be premature to recommend them based on Brand or your short term useage. That's why most folk stick to Ritek Dye, as it's the dye that counts ....... it doesn't matter what the brand name is.
Ritek isn't perfect, but it is consistent and that's what most people settle for in the end.

Just to clarify - not only did Lord Of The Deals falsely advertise these as RITEK, their customer helpline also tried to fob me off with a cock & bull story about a partnership between SONY & RITEK.

To me, the fact that these discs were sh*te was secondary to the above.

Yes that does show complete contempt for the customer.

FWIW I wouldn't have risked the discs if they hadn't been 22p each. The fact that they did work for me was an added bonus -- I only bought them in the first place for storing downloaded data RARs, for which seem to be able to get away with anything media-wise.

Incidentally Phil if you have a quantity of your crap Infinitis, care to offload them on me cheap? Pay you 15p a disc, lol.

LOL ..... no I haven't kept the one I had, it didn't even perform well as a coster ...... left a white ring on my desk :D
