Okay im a total newbie and apart from having a chipped xbox dont know much about the scene.

Theres only 1 thing I want and need to do at the moment and I would be grateful if one of you pro's could tell me if its possible and what I would need to do.

My do's n donts !

I dont want to take off the ms dashboard and so want to know if I can boot evox from CD and if so where i could get a version that would run from cd. When I aint got the CD in I want the xbox to boot to MS Dash as normal without any lasting settings from running the evox cd. Possible ?

All I want to be able to do is run 1 game from the hard disk. could I just run evox copy the game to hard disk and then boot with the evox cd to run this game ?

The reason I want to run this game from hard disk is because I would like to change some of the files. Its a sports game ( Rugby League ) and if the xbox version is like the PS2 and PC the kits are just small graphic files that I could copy across updated kits onto the xbox hard disk over the old ones.
Hopefully the game would continue to run as normal.

I may need to network the xbox to my pc at some stage to be able to do this with any kind of easy regularity but I thought for now I could just put them from my pc onto a CDRW and would evox let me read this and copy them over the existing files on the hard disk ?

Am I way off base here of does the above sound remotely possible ?

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Anything ? Is Evox even the right utility to use for what I want to do ? Copy a game to hard disk and run it without changing MS Dash ?

do you have a mod disable switch on your xbox?

if it does the xbox would boot to the m$ dash when the switch is "off" and then the chip would boot to evox when the switch is "on".

I think you can boot evox from a disk, but evox itself doesn't have the ability to rip games to the hd.

Avalaunch on the other hand does have an in built file manager that will let you to copy files from a dvd to the hd, although i'm not sure how that'd work, seeing as you would have to remove the disc containing your dash to put your game in.

At the moment there aren't any tools to convert files from different game systems.

Why do you not want to have evox on the hdd?

I just dont want to blow up my xbox. Just wanted to put a cd in to boot a game from the hard disk. Didnt want to actually affect the xbox in any way beyond that. Cant installing evox **** up your xbox if you dont know what your doing ?

Thats why the first thing you do is back up the hdd, that way you can always go back to a stock drive.

It is safe as long as you take your time, be able to read instructions, and have some common sense. :)

always backup.
and it really isn't rocket science. not a single file that comes with evox will overwrite a file on the xbox. evoxdash.xbe, evox.ini /skins folder. that's it :)

i'm not sure what chip you have, but you can boot different dashes from the chip.

I have the pro2.0. when bank one is enabled it boots to the F: where I have evox. When I have bank 2 on my xbox boots to C: MS dash.

All this is done by flashing the chip with the right bios. I made F: bios in xbtool.
