Try the consumer opinion forum. You'll probably get more replies there, but if you want my opinion, from what I've read its a decent dual format burner. I've got an NEC 1100 and it hasn't let me down yet.

All you have to do is search the forum for it & there are tons of topics already.

not bad but it's + only. Depends what you paid for it really. You can get =/- burners for about £70-£80 now (4x)

I would rather buy a Pioneer 106 personally but the NEC is supposed to be decent once you get a firmware upgrade.

emailrob - Hi The NEC 1300 is ± not just +.
The drive is very good, especially for the price but I would advise using one of Herries hacked firmware for better media support.
Personally I use Ritek based +R media with the hacked firmware that allows bitsetting and have been able to produce disks that play on a DVD player that has never managed to play any other ± DVDR disk.
EDIT (whoops I forgot to put the 1300 after NEC)
There appears to be a hacked firmware to change the NEC 1100 into a NEC 1300 but I think this only works with certain drives. Check out the rpc1.org forums and Etna's site for more info.

Alot of people confuse the 1300A with the 1100A. The 1100A is + format only and the 1300A is dual format. :)
