MugsyGoten Jan 17, 2004, 01:49 AM I have AIM installed on my computer in Japan, but unforunately, it wont connect. It seems that my university has blocked it...those crazy *******s. Anyways, Ive tried trillian, and it wont connect under it either. How can I override this? Does it have anything to do with Proxy? I dont know what that means, but it seems like something that I would be able to use to bypass this.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Insomniac Jan 17, 2004, 06:56 AM Quote "those crazy *******s". Crazy what? Just because they won't let install what you like on their network?
All Universities, Colleges etc do this for good reason.
If you don't like it, too bad, leave.
MugsyGoten Jan 17, 2004, 07:17 AM well captain, I'd like to set the record straight on this. I have my own computer, and Im trying to use my own computer to connect to this to talk to my family. So thats a big oops on your part. Now tell me why I cant use this to talk to my family in America while Im in Japan. Seems stupid doesnt it?
Let me remind you, this is not their computers, although it is their network. It is already installed, it just doesnt go past the connecting screen.
"Those crazy bast*rds" refers to the Japanese in general and how crazy they usually are. I have my reasons, Im the one that lives here, and I see ATMs that close at 6PM...they close, I swear to god, Ive seen it with own eyes, day after day. Thats just one instance of some of the things that they do that are downright stupid. Blocking AIM on MY computer ranks up there.
kyle5077 Jan 17, 2004, 10:31 AM Have you simply tried going into AIMs prefs Under "Sign on/Sign off" then click "Connection" and auto confg. My school blocks the defaultAIM ports, but by doing this it gets around it.

As I said before, it's their network. If you don't like it, use your own. Simple.

It's their country. If you don't like it, live somewhere else and stop whining.
I hate rascists and I hate people that complain about their adopted country. No one is forcing you to stay.

Thats one of the most disgraceful attitude, until you own both the computer and their network, you are a 'guest' on their system, so you go by their rules.
System admin has a job to do, their job is what ? to protect their network, while I am not saying they are right, nor wrong, they are just doing their job, and blocking ports for chat software is very common on todays uni or school computers, again, I am not totally agreed with their policy, but its 'their network' as you said.
If you have a valid reason, you only need to talk to their admin department to get a yes or no answer. And I will NOT allow members to slag off another country and their people just because you do not like the way they work or play, you sure would not like a stranger come to your house with a plate, and start eating your food simply because they 'own' this plate so they can put whatever food they like onto this plate would you ?

balconybaby Jan 18, 2004, 12:04 AM How do you know someone isnt forcing him to stay in country?
and what harm can aim do? just disable file transfer capability & u r good 2 go
copyright Jan 18, 2004, 12:09 AM Use a HTTP tunnler since they most likely blocked the port that AIM uses. So just change the default port to 80 or something similar.

Thats pretty good, a network is to food, as a computer is to a dinner plate:idea:
Nice analogy.........or slimily...........or whatever the heck it is. That's a simily right  because I used as?
MugsyGoten Jan 18, 2004, 06:12 AM thanks everyone that helped. And for those of you that didnt help, I dont know why youre so worried about it. Plus by government law, I do HAVE to stay here. So, I cant leave. Also, its nothing like bringing a plate somewhere and eating someone elses food, becfause in this instance, Im paying for the food.
Like I said, Japan can be retarted, this is on of those issues.
Again, I'll use what was reccomended, and wonder why those of you who post useless comments waste your time.
Goodnight all, and thank you.
MugsyGoten Jan 18, 2004, 08:46 AM I got it figured out thanks to you guys. Tons of help, as always.

Well, I guess those people just don't have much else to do. I was simply just trying to lighten the mood with everybody accusing you of being a radical racist or something. Oh yeah, just for future reference it is RETARDED with a D not a T
Thank you
