ive fitted a 120gb hdd in an external usb2/firewire enclosure the pc is finding a usb device but not the hdd any advice welcome

running
windows xp
p4 2400
512 ram

have you tried leaving the usb caddy turned on and then restarting the pc.

What is it detecting if it isn't the hdd?

it will be flashing the little icon in the corner for new hardware then a little usb icon,had the same prob myself once.its usually caused by a voltage problem to the external usb device.turning the pc off the on sometimes cures it.i assume you are plugged into a multi socket.if so try plugging in to its own plg socket.

Have you partitioned and formatted the harddrive? It won't show up until then. Look in Disk Management and see if the drive is listed but un-partitioned.

didnt think of that one qwerty.could be the problem.
