i can frequently hear a clicking noise come from inside the pc case.its not the normal crackling noise of the hd and has only started recently.has anyone else had this problem.

Yes, I had a hard drive start making a loud "click" when seeking, I backed everything up, it died a couple of days later. I had another which did much the same thing but the symptoms went away after a couple of days - i think they were both Seagates.

you got owt catching the cooling fan or fans in ya case like a trailinig power or audio cable have you

It's more than likely your hard drive.

If your bios supports it, try to enable S.M.A.R.T and that should tell you if or when the drive is dying, although it's not foolproof.

I have the same noise coming out my system. It does'nt happen very often, but when it does, its a distinct click.....click. Then it may not happen for a few weeks....

I've had the hard drive from my previous machine, so its about 3 years old.....and has been doing it from day one. It sounds like the Hard Drive, but its been working fine for the past 3 years or so....

Yeah, it doesn't always mean death, as I said I've had some heavy clunking coming out of my HDD's before (identified with head in case listening to clicks ...) and one survived even though made me nervous enough to slave it off and get a new one in as primary.

I strongly suggest that you backup everything ASAP and consider your options from there (assuming it is your HD and not some numpty who has left a wire trailing through your fan ...)

I would do what San says, you dont want assume the drive will be ok and lose everything on it. If its definitly clicking and is under warranty, transfer your data and send the thing back to be fixed or replaced.

i still got some warranty left on it so will phone them up.thanks for the advice
