patondeez Jan 19, 2004, 10:57 AM so i let my little brother play my modded xbox, big mistake.
my dvd drive now won't read games, audio, dvds or anything. when i boot with my modchip disabled i get a message that says my xbox needs service. when i boot into dashboard it tries to init the games and cds but says No Disc eventually.
any ideas?
handyguy Jan 19, 2004, 11:39 AM unplug it for a minute or more & plug back in & ask the kid what he did. cause you probably need to reinstall something.
patondeez Jan 19, 2004, 12:23 PM i've unplugged, plugged back in, i took the dvd drive out entirely and booted, and i get the same results, error message saying that i need service with modchip disabled, boots into dash saying nocd modchip enabled.
he said he did nothing, which is probably a lie. :(
patondeez Jan 19, 2004, 01:16 PM when it tries to read the disc, i can hear it trying, and then i get a brief grinding noise just before it says "no disc"

Yeah, it's broken.
smokafatty Jan 19, 2004, 04:13 PM So you can get it to boot to the dash with the modchip enabled? If so then reload your hdd with a backup of the drives if you have them. Sounds like the xbox is toast but I wouldn't give up so soon, theres still a few things to try.
Also what kind of chip do you have?

smokafatty Jan 19, 2004, 08:49 PM ebay, bst, or xbox-scene
you can also use a pc dvdrom drive if you don't want to use originals.
