Ivanhoe Jan 20, 2004, 05:23 PM Hey guys, I just got an LG DVD multi recorder GSA 4040B, and I've been having some problems with it. First of all, it plays movies and all that, and it also records cds/cdrws. However, it won't recognize dvdrs! It wont let me record in any dvd modes, and it acts as if it's only a cdrw drive...could anyone help? BTW, I'm running my computer (P4 1.7ghz) with Windows 98. When I was installing this drive, there wasn't enough room on the motherboard to have another cd/dvd drive on my computer, so I unplugged everything from my previous Justlink CDRW drive on my computer and plugged them all into the new dvdrw drive...will that have anything to do with the problems Ive been having? Please help me out-thanks.

sammy_510 Jan 20, 2004, 07:53 PM you may need to go into the bios detect the new writer

Ivanhoe Jan 20, 2004, 08:02 PM Sorry for being a "newbie" to this, but how would I get into the bios to get it detected?
handyguy Jan 21, 2004, 11:10 AM Youd have to look at your cpu board instruction book.
sammy_510 Jan 21, 2004, 12:54 PM the most common way is to hit del key during bootup, but have a look at the screen during boot and it usually says what key/s to press to enter setup/bios

Ivanhoe Jan 21, 2004, 03:36 PM Alright-now when I'm at the bios, what do I do?
geobon Jan 21, 2004, 04:14 PM If it wasn't detected in the bios it wouldnt write at all, What software are you using and did it come with the drive? Anyhow go to device manager and see if its detected in there first, if its listed there it'll have been detected in the bios.
PhilEnfield Jan 21, 2004, 04:22 PM Yup .... BIOS and W98 must see the drive ok ...... if the PC plays DVD's, but wont burn dvdr's, it's most likely that your burning software doesn't recognise the drive properly or maybe you have an older OEM version that doesn't support DVDR burning.
What burning software/version are you using and have you tried downloading & installing the latest version ?

Ivanhoe Jan 21, 2004, 08:08 PM I have all those requirements-I noticed something about the software cd though...when I installed the driver, the only one that it would enable me to install for is Windows ME-the windows 9x folder was empty..I'll check the website for a driver.
Ivanhoe Jan 21, 2004, 11:21 PM I couldn't find a DVD driver for it (It's an LG GSA-4040B) for Windows 9x...I think the problem Im also having is with some programs...the provided B's recorder GOLD 5 works fine, but nero's having problems initializing everything...
normandjose Jan 22, 2004, 01:41 AM Now you've said you're using nero i think i know the answer. Nero sees a DVDRW drive as 2 drives. After nero initializes, above it's menu list of what you would like to record you will see a drop down menu of what recorder you want to use. Open that up and you'll see your drive there twice, once as a dvd and secondly as a cd-r/rw. Select it as a cd-r/rw for recording audio and data discs, and as a dvd for doing movies.
Ivanhoe Jan 22, 2004, 04:05 PM It only lists a "virtual drive"-I'll have to get another version of nero...the newest one I had before the older one that I was using(that wasn't recognizing the drive) used to recognize it and burn dvds, but when it was done "burning" it didnt actually record anything! It was as if it was just simulated...weird...
