ok here goes...i've got a pioneer external dvr106d firmware 1.7 using nero 6...yesterday i had it connected to a usb1.1 port and it tooked over 1 hr to burn a dvdr at 4x (i did burn 3 dvds all successful )with datawrite yellow4x disk this was slow because of the usb1.1 connection !!!

today i've upgraded to a usb 2 connection via a pci card to get 4x speed under 15 mins BUT so far out of the 10 datawrite yellow dvdr's none will write nero keeps saying failed to write at 4x after 30 seconds tried 1x and same thing....everything seems to be connected and in working order as far as the pionner drive goes...so i tried to connect back to usb1.1 and guess what it still failed to write whereas yesterday i did 3 dvds !!!

what do u think the bottom line is i have a very strong feelin its the crappy datawrite yellow dvds princo dye maybe the top 3 that i did were ok and the rest could be crap...PLS ADVISE

Try a Ritek G04 and if that works you have the answer, prolly is the media but could be a number of other things.

What *exact* version No of Nero ar you using?

I would say upgrade to 6.3 as I have no DVD burn issues with that myself and it does seem to be pretty stable for DVD burning. (Did I just say that about Nero??? :D )

the latest is that the drive now makes a funny sound as if its trying to burn dvdr but after 30 secs fails to write i've tried tdk dvdr- and the same result do u think its a faulty drive or should i try ritek go4 ???

try uninstalling nero then reinstall and do a nero speed test on your drive to ensure nero is setup to the new i/o usb2 line.
as lazza says upgrade if possible, as early editions of ultra 6 were very buggy.

ok tried that still same result it plays but does not burn dvdr's or cdr's keeps saying write error after about 30 seconds with 4x dvdr's and a few minutes with cdr's ..i've also tried the ritek go4 dvdrs same result...do u think i've exhausted my avenue's and its looking likely to be a FAULTY drive or laser ???

Nero 6 needs lots of patches.

Try nero 5.5.10 or a demo at nero.com

tried the demo and i've tried the drive in about 3 different computers and with recondnow max same result...i guess the drive is faulty time to send it back !!!
