I rented online a DVD film which got stuck in my computer and apparently damaged something inside.

At the start up of the DVD it hasn't the copyright screen where there is the usual information about rental agreements. Aren't they breaking the law by renting DVD 's which seems to be actually not for renting purposes but for personal use?

Think maybe that you can just pay an additional license fee?

I've rented stuff from blockbuster before which hasn't had warnings at the beginning, but has gone straight into the movie. Which isn't too fun because you barely have time to sit down before it starts :D

I personaly hate DVD's that have too many warnings, specially when they also display them in french after the long english ones!

Like almost everyone when I rent a DVD film I never look at those copyright screen because I don't have interest of what is written about rental agreements. I just want to enjoy personally the film on my laptop and that's all!

But last time after having been through half of that DVD film it got stucked and my DVD player after that was making a strange noise... I then watch the beginning again and then I have noticed that the rental agrements were missing which I thought was strange because until this time I always had those copyrights screen when I rented DVD's film.
The outer look of that DVD made me feel that it could be actually a fake one. But I wonder if a DVD rental company would dare to do such things...!?

I don't know how to check if DVD's are fake or not (any suggestions...?), but even with your comment JS about Blockbuster, I am still wondering if that DVD rental company aren't breaking the law by (at least) renting DVD 's which doesn't have rental agreements at the beginning of the film...?

If it was done by a pressing machine which are very common in Asia, it would be hard to tell because they look just like the originals with the printed labels directly on the DVD's and everything. You can hold an authentic and the copied DVD's right next to each other and not know the difference. It can also be because the authentics are done in Asia anyways.

I don't know if they need permission to rent them. Might want to try doing a search and a bit of research on it.

How exactly did it get stuck in your computer and what did it damage?, And if it did how do you know if it had warning screens or not cause im assuming if the disc shattered etc it wouldnt play in another player and if you removed the dvd and its complete and plays in another player its highly unlikely thats what caused the problem.

I know dozens of places that rent dvd that's from HK the bootleg ones. I never really thought of it, as long as I can rent HK Anime DVD than it was fiined with me.

It's not that unusual. Alot of movies don't have any copyright or FBI warning at the beginning. It's sometimes at the end of the movie. Especially with older movies.

Or XXX ones....which appear to have no copy protection on them. It was many years ago that I found that out.

A possible reason that it could have gotten stuck on your DVD player could have been if the DVD had stickers on it. I haven't rented from blockbuster in years, but when I did, I know they use to put stickers on their PSX games and one of those stickers got stuck in my CD player when I was trying to listen to the music on a music CD player. I had to open up my CD player to get it out, it was a hassle. Thats one of the reasons I stoped renting from blockbuster. They are also cheaper to rent at The Wherehouse and I know for sure they use original authentic DVD's there and they never put any stickers on the DVD's. You should rent at the wherehouse or somewhere else besides blockbuster.
