Hi,

I am receiving read error on DVD-r backups using my Pioneer 106 DVD writer. The drive is only about a month old.

The dvd discs have been tested in other dvd drives and read perfectly.

It has only happend with 2x ritek datasafes so far.

Is the 106 known to have reading issues?

Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance

So have you tried it with other media then? It could need a firmware update as well. Also do you have a seperate DVD-ROM drive as it really is recommended not to have your burner to do all of the reading and writing.

I am going to buy a lite on dvd rom drive today after the advice on the forum. I haven't had any problems as far as I can remember with 4x riteks (over 100 successful read / writes).

My firmware version is 1.05. I have downloaded version 1.07 but when I run the executable it says 'target not found'. The happens with the updated for 106D and 106RD.

How do I get the firmware to update and is this advisable if I have 1.05.

Appreciate the advice.

Thanks

Maybe a silly question, but why are you bothering with Ritek G03's with the 106 ?, as these will only burn at 1 X with the official firmware.

Why not go for Ritek G04's and get 4 X, without any firmware upgrades/hacks ? .... my advice would be .... dont try to fix what aint broke !

Phil,

thanks for the advice. The disks were supplied by someone else who tells me the read errors are caused by compatability problems at my end.

I always use Ritek G04's myself (based on advice on the forum) with zero coasters and zero read errors.

Still get the read error with lite on I purchased today so this convinces me that it is a media issue.

I don't want to change firmware so will not change based on your respected opinion.

Cheers
