check the batch no's on the riteks, are they all the same on the bad burns. if so it could be a bad batch. had 10 g04's that where bad all had the same batch no.

the frosted g04's should bun fine at 4x.

Are we talking about games or movies here? If we are talking about movies, what software did you use to decrypt, shrink ect. Some software programs are known to have issues with the XBOX.

Try upgrading to the V1.9 firmware. I have been told by many NEC owners that firmware will save you quite a bit of trouble.

Strange I just did a search for it myself on google and turned up a couple of german sites. *EDIT* My Bad. I think it is V1.09 and not V1.9. Try that.

If you have managed to ... "burn some cheap media 4x media and they worked fine on the xbox", ........ it has to be your media.

Have you tried another type of Ritek G04 ?
..... and/or have you tried burning your "frosted 4X" at 2 X or 1X ?

Also ... do you know what make of drive you have in the XBOX ?

no i haven't tried another type of ritek g04 but when i bought my riteks i bought 150 pack disc that came 50pk wraped each but the crazy thing is that i put back in my sony dru500a and then burn the same riteks out of the pack at 2x (thats the fastest my sony sees those disc at 2x) using the same appz and they work fine on the xbox and i do have a philips drive in my xbox

Well no wonder then. The V1.9 firmware is for the 1300A. I don't know about any recent updates for the 2500A.

Well ...... the first thing to do is change your disks .... this is simple and will eliminate the media issue, but change to a decent alternative .... maybe a known good Ritek G04.

secondly your XBOX is probably picky/choosy about media, so this is not a good way of measuring the performance of your nec 2500a.

IMO if you have successfully burnt disks that work in your apex and intial dvd mini system and they all burnt at 4 X, the problem would seem to be more about your XBOX and it's compatibility with various media types.

Me thinks you are confusing one issue with the other ;

hi , ive just got my self a NEC 2500a drive and i am having the same problem,
im using ritek disks as well,
these disks dont seem to be Compatable with the drive, if i burn a film on my pioneer 105 they playback fine by not with my NEC 2500a .
if i burn a disk with my NEC 2500a any try to make a image of this burned disk on my hard drive my DVD-ROM drive is having a hard time reading the disk, it takes nearly twice as long as it should do! its like the disk is full of errors :(

You mean it has to be your drive? The same media plays fine when burnt with the sony, Ive had 2 of these drives and both had the same problems with ritek media, aint a problem no more as ive exchanged it for a 107 and the same media burns fine and plays on everything.

The XBOX has 3 different DVD Drives. 1. Thomson 2. Philips 3. Samsung. The Samsung is generally considered the most flexible of the 3 and will read just about any cheap CD-R or DVD-R that you throw at it. ;)

Yep .... I agree it does seem to be apparent now that the 2500a has a problem with Riteks .... I am picking this up across various forums.
I wonder is this just a firmware issue or is it the drive itself.

Who knows. Either way though, I would rather spend the extra money for a 107 than wait around for NEC (or someone else) to produce a firmware that would allow me to burn Riteks that work.
