just wondering if the USB cam that comes with the ps2 eyetoy game can be used as a web cam on my pc?

if so, what software do u need?

I dont think so cause it has a special chip in it that lets the camera follow you. Why not plug it in your computer & see what happens?

that is not completely true.

if the eyetoy was the same hardware as a everyday logitech webcam...then the ps2 should recongize no difference between the official sony one and a typical logitech...but it does i take it.

the drivers for the device will remain almost the same through out the life of the ps2, however the EPROM chip or whatever is inside the official Sony webcam that is in charge of the interface, must be proprietary.

you could of course support your own if you had the spec's, but nobody does yet i assume so we are stuck with the official one.

so in some ways, actually more ways than not, it is a "special" chip.

btw, even if you could support your own webcam you have for PC/MAC or whatever, it would be useless for games because software developers would not support it i do not believe. So you really could only use it for home brew software or ps2linux.

only time will tell i guess.

You could run the s-video out from the ps2 to a a/v in on the computer. seems a lot of work when you could get a webcam for a few bucks after rebate.
