Hi all,been using winrar 3.20 now for about a year with no problems,until now that is,was previously using the windows me operatinging system but since i've upgraded to xp professional i can,t get anything to unrar,for example if i downloaded 20 rar files from a newsgroup and followed the method i was using previously i should end up with either a bin/cue,iso or mpeg but now all i get is 1 single rar file(1.5gb),are my settings wrong in winrar or is it windows xp thats causing the problem,any help would be appreciated......thanks in advance gaz

i take it you have a fully licenced copy, if so just reinstall the copy, or download it again and if its already installed on your system it should just repair itself, if it doesn't, email the makers, tell them what happened and they should renew your key, if you are still having problems, mail me a.jackson50@ntlworld.com

doesn't sound like an XP problem, never experienced it or seen it anywhere. It sounds like you are creating a rar file of those 20 rars, rather than extracting them. Only way to tell really is to open the 1.5gb rar file and see if the 20 original rars are shown in there. How are you trying to extract them, by doubleclicking on the .rar/part1.rar file or by right clicking and choosing extract?

What you have said is right i am creating 1 large rar file out of the 20 smaller files,but i dont know why,when i try to open the large rar file error pops up saying file is unknown or damaged,as for the extraction i've tried both methods you mention but always end up with the same result.

The copy of winrar is licenced,i've also tried trial versions and cracked versions but still same result,i've reinstalled many times but still no luck.the version i have installed is the version ive used for the last year with no probs,its only been since XP has been installed that ive had problems.

did you do a full install of xp, or did you upgrade from me to xp- seems to me that the problem may be there

complete new install of xp,formatted hardrive and xp install,i thought myself it was some settings in xp but which settings to change i'm unsure of...thanks gaz

is it specifically that set of rar files that doesn't work? if so i'd guess its either a corrupt set of rars, or it has been rarred up with winrar 3.30 with some 3.30 only features.

if its affecting all your rar/zip files then i would assume its something more serious.

Hi,ive downloaded 2 different groups of rar files today,the strange thing is 1 set of rar files (14x7.2mb)worked properly and the other set (14x47.6mb)didnt,the working set gave me bin/cue which is what usually happened but the second set gave me 1 single rar file (669mb)when i was after an iso,i tinkered about with some settings in winrar thinking it was that but stiill no joy,any further advice would be greatly appreciated as this is really starting to pi$$ me off..............thanks in advance gaz
