if i only want to connect 2 pcs to share an aol broadband modem , can i just put a network card in each and connect with a cable and be able to use broadband on both pcs? if i can do this do i need a crossover cable or the other 1?
and finally will it work ok if my pc is running win 2k pro and my son's is running win98se?

Easiest way I think is a 'phoneline adaptor' plugs into a USB port and you plug the other PC into it, sorted. I have not used one, and am not certain that is how they work, if you do a search you should find all you need to know

The two computers will have to be connected to network cards via a crossover cable. Computers running Windows 2000 and 98SE can do it. You would then have to enable and run ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) on the computer connected to the broadband.
Visit Practically Networked.com for an explanation on how it's done. They have How-To guides............................

I'm not that familiar with AOL DSL Broadband so I don't have that answer.
However, if your server system is Windows 2000 and your client system is Windows 98SE, there is a broadband setup How-To here.......................

since just before christmas aol have supported home networking, but will only supply technical support if you are using windows xp and one of their recommended speedtouch routers.

if your only using two pcs you need a crossover cable and the software for the network cards to set up internet sharing.aol does do it as i set up a system last week both running win98se on aol and both now share the broadband connection.the kit i bought for my customer was a belkin one from my local pc shop for 20 quid and everything you needed was in the box, network cards x2 ,crossover cable and software.

but how do you select sharing from your aol connection? because there is one connection called bt voyager 100 adsl modem connection, but it seems to dial through the 1 that says aol dial on demand and when i right click on this it won't let me into properties?
