I'm currently running WinXP home. Upon starting computer, after all the loading process, I get this message
"Device or applications disabled" and this " 'Direct CD' will cause Windows to become unstable. Windows has prevented these drivers from loading.
OK I click, it gives me a patch
"http://www.roxio.com/en/jhtml/xpupdate.jhtml?location=update"
When accessing this address all I get is the Roxio home page. I tried the support feature the only online help is a FAQ type help. To get tech support from Roxio will cost $35 per session.
This problem is preventing me from loading or running certian programs and games.
Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.
If you guys need anymore info please ask, I'll see what I can do.
Thanks!!!

Direct CD is Roxios's packet writing software how does it not loading interfere with playing games?
from what you have said it sounds like you are using an old version of easy Cd update to the newest version available for what you are using.
or just uninstall Direct CD

ISS, the Roxio software came bundled with WinXP. All I know is since this problem has developed some of my kids educational games won't load or play right. This might be compatibility conflicts with some games because of old versions, but some of them are compatible with WinXP and I have the same problem with those. I just don't know, but thanks for the assist.
Also upon startup I get this popup window which is very annoying. So if I delete the Roxio software this should eliminate the popups on start up??

unfortunately roxio has a nasty habit of causing problems even when you delete it. I would suggest creating a restore point in system restore prior to uninistalling roxio that way if a problem crops up you can go back.
another option you could try is going into start up and disabling Dirct Cd from loading at start up.

Disable Windows XP built in burning support, because that is from Roxio as well. You should be able to d/l that patch for free though.

That can't be it!
When you install burning software of any type, the built in XP software is disabled automatically.
That is by design of the operating system.

Damn. I wanted the satisfaction of disabling it myself.
